Soar Valley U3A is part of a national network of self help groups providing older people with opportunities to broaden their horizons by involving themselves in new learning experiences, developing their skills and sharing their talents with others. Its main purpose is to encourage lifelong learning for those no longer in full time employment. The Group is affiliated to the Third Age Trust and is a member of The Association of East Midlands U3As The Group mainly serves the villages in the Soar Valley, along the Leicestershire/Nottinghamshire border, to the North of Loughborough. Twenty-eight Activity Groups cater for a a wide range of interests. The sub-groups meet regularly at various locations throughout the year and a general meeting is held every second month. New study groups may be formed at any time if there is sufficient interest and a volunteer with appropriate knowledge and skills to lead the group. The joining fee is £8.50 per year to cover any number of topics. Some subjects require special equipment or facilities that may involve a small additional fee per session.
